The simple answer is yes, they do. Colleges look to see how well-prepared a student is for college-level coursework, and one tool they use is to see whether a student took challenging courses in school. Not every course you take has to be an AP or IB course, but if your college offers AP courses or participates in the IB program, take the advanced courses where you can, and where you feel you'll do well.
